Most digital and print publications have covered the topic of the following sentences: “The miracle treatments for dry hair”, “The best deeply moisturizing hair masks, or “5 tips to smoothen frizzy locks…” The point is, there seems to be endless of ways to combat brittle hair, but not that many fool proof hacks for people with oily hair scalp.

Suffering from a dirty hair complexion has probably made people devoted to daily hair washing to keep the greasy roots clean; an action that’s destined for failure in the long run. What happens is that over-washing deprives the hair of its natural oils and sets the scalp in a state to over-produce sebum, leaving hair to look and feel greasier once again the day after washing it.

There is actually one definite solution to restore the pH balance in the hair scalp. A type of “workout” routine for hair to regain its fresh look and feel. Here is how to set the hair into training and ban the grime once and for all:

Day 1

First day of oily hair boot camp starts with a thorough deep cleanse. According to several hair professionals, a clarifying shampoo has the best formula that’s strong enough to rinse dirt, oil and chemical build-up, and gentle enough to avoid stripping the hair of its natural oils.

Moroccanoil Clarifying Shampoo

Moroccanoil Clarifying Shampoo is a deep cleansing formula that restores hair to a weightless, healthy balance while conjuring away the signs of impurities, dullness and environmental build-up. Gently massage this sulphate-free argan, avocado and jojoba infused mix into the scalp, all while letting the water run through the hair. As soon as the water turns clear, you’re good to go.

Keep in mind that this substance is effective, yet harsh. So don’t use it more than once a week.

Day 2

Refrain from a daily washing regime. It’s challenging, especially if you have somewhere to be; in a meeting, at dinner with a friend or doing anything that involves social activities. Just hang in there and fight the urge to run a quick rinse through the hair. Additionally, investing in a solid dry shampoo is helpful on the quest to fresh and clear hair.

OUAI Dry Shampoo

Fast-absorbing, neutralizing and volume-building are just the few of the qualities packed in this can. Simply shake and blast the roots with OUAI Dry Shampoo, flip the hair over and ruffle it using the fingertips for that Va-Va-Voom effect.

Day 3

Almost there, just hang on for one more day without a rinse. This day will be the toughest one since you’ll most definitely either want to drown the hair in dry shampoo or poke it around with the fingertips, hoping to find a side that’s clean enough to show. DON’T! Since finger-to-hair contact will only make it worse by adding more oil, which is what no one wants nor needs at this point. To make things better, opt for a hair-do that suits the vexatious hair.

Reclaimed Vintage Inspired Heart Hair Pin

A cute hair pin is exactly what is needed to adjust and style a “messy hair, don’t care” look. A greasy complexion will just add an edgy texture to this chic hair do. Gather all of the hair and pull it all the way back to fight the urge of touching it as soon as it gets in the face. Then, pin the hair with a delicate vintage inspired heart pin by placing a messy bun at the top of the head, or styling it in a low chignon.

Day 4

The final step of hair-training! It wasn’t so bad, was it? Now it’s finally time for a well-deserved wash. But, before getting the hopes up; this final step includes rinsing hair with raw apple cider vinegar.

Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

It’s known that apple cider vinegar is the go-to ingredient when it comes to body and skin care. The substance is rich in potassium and enzymes that keeps skin youthful, supports the immune system, removes toxins, and promotes digestion and pH balance. So, it’s pretty obvious that it should benefit the hair on our heads as well.

Work a small amount of Bragg apple cider vinegar into damp hair, gently massage the roots, and rinse it out thoroughly. The raw liquid will help restore the hair’s pH balance and remove build-up without depriving the hair of its natural oils and nutrients.

Here’s to surviving the first week of oily hair boot camp! Now repeat the routine and observe as the hair gets fresher, cleaner and more healthy-looking week by week.
